George Alexopoulos @GPrime85 - "Greeks are bad people!" a Jewish kid once declared while I was teaching after-school art class. He was smart, talented, friendly.
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
The answer was interrupted by another teacher gasping. "Mr. George is Greek!"
"Oh," the kid said, confused. The subject was changed.
That kid wasn't born believing that Greeks are bad people. He was taught to believe that. Growing up in one of the most Jewish towns in the United States, it was no surprise these youngsters are instructed from a young age to hold grudges that have endured for thousands of years.
Back in the day I (normal American kid with a silly last name) had zero animosity towards anyone. We were all Americans. Far as I knew, Jewish kids were as friendly as anyone else. I went to their birthdays, went over their houses, it was all good. Looking back, however, I realize my Israeli (migrant) classmates were some of the most racist people I've ever met.
So, according to the rule of projection, maybe when this guy says "everyone hates us," what he really means is "we hate everyone."
