In first since Oct. 7 massacre, IDF reopening beach near Gaza border OCtober 15, 2025 11:13 am
For the first time since the October 7, 2023, onslaught, the IDF is reopening Zikim Beach near the northern border with the Gaza Strip to the general public.
Following a fresh assessment, the military says IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir approved a recommendation by the Southern Command to reopen Zikim Beach to the public, in coordination with the regional council, and remove a closed military zone imposed on the area since the start of the war.
The beach will reopen tomorrow, the army says.
The IDF says the move was made possible “following significant operational activities” in the northern Gaza Strip area and preparations by the Southern Command and Navy.
On the morning of October 7, 38 Hamas terrorists in seven speedboats set out from the Gaza Strip. Some of the terrorists reached the beach area, where they killed 17 civilians and one soldier.
