Historian Peter Cozzens discussed the early years of Deadwood, South Dakota, and how the discovery of gold in the 1870's drove the establishment and rise of the Wild West town. This event took place at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.

October Family Day: Creating Comics - Families of all ages are invited to create their own comics and see a display of items from the Library’s extensive comics collections. The activities will be held on the mezzanine level of the Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building. Register for free tickets.

America 250: Navy & Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Opening Ceremony. Navy and Marine Corps leaders joined Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker (D) at the opening ceremony for the Navy & Marine Corps 250th birthday celebration in Philadelphia. The ceremony also featured a parade of ships along the Delaware River.
