Wearing the rubber suit as Godzilla was Haruo Nakajima who had been a reserve pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy and participated in the funeral for Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier Shinano in 1944 but was transferred shortly before the ship was sunk by USS Archerfish.
