UPS and FedEx Ground 53 MD-11F Aircraft After Deadly Louisville Crash
UPS and FedEx have grounded a combined total of 53 McDonnell Douglas MD-11F cargo aircraft after the November 6 crash in Louisville, Kentucky, that killed at least 14 people, including three crew members.
Following the accident, UPS grounded all 26 of its MD-11Fs—about 9% of its fleet—citing manufacturer recommendations and precautionary safety measures.
FedEx Express has also grounded its 26 MD-11Fs. The airline says it will conduct a full safety review and still intends to retire the fleet by 2032, replacing it with Boeing 767-300F and 777F aircraft.
