Mayor Karen Bass @MayorOfLA - I’m the daughter of a World War II Veteran, so honoring those who served is personal to me. Today, I hosted a luncheon at the Getty House to honor and recognize Veterans who were provided dignified and stable permanent housing through the House Our Vets program.
At the start of 2025, I led efforts to launch House Our Vets. Since then, nearly 400 Veterans have been permanently housed.
This work wouldn’t have been possible without the collective support of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, Veteran Affairs, nonprofit organizations, caseworkers & outreach teams, and our landlord and property-owner community, whose partnership makes this work possible.
Now we are accelerating this work. We’re launching a year-end surge to expand landlord outreach and speed up placements. In the new year, we’ll begin a public information campaign to ensure that Veterans know how to access housing and benefits.
This progress reflects a broader shift. Since I took office, Veterans' homelessness has dropped, and street homelessness has dropped 17 percent for the first time ever. We also secured federal policy changes that protect Veterans’ disability benefits and accelerate housing placements.
However, progress is not victory. Our work is not done until every Veteran in Los Angeles has a safe, stable home.
