1. “I got shot at serving our country in combat”
→ Kelly flew 39 combat missions as a Navy A-6 pilot in Operation Desert Storm (1991) and received combat awards, but no record exists of him personally being shot at or wounded. His wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords, was shot in 2011.
2. “I was there when your boss sent a violent mob”
→ Kelly was not physically present at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021; he was in Arizona (per his Senate schedule and contemporaneous statements).
3. “sent a violent mob to attack the Capitol”
→ In his Jan. 6 speech, Trump explicitly said: “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” He never directed violence. No evidence exists of a formal order from Trump deploying or withholding National Guard; deployment authority rested with Capitol Police Board and DoD (per DoD IG report).
4. “insurrection”
→ As of Nov. 2025, zero Jan. 6 defendants have been charged with insurrection (18 U.S.C. §2383) per DOJ data. Over 1,580 charged; most for trespass/parading, ~560 for assault.
