This was a deliberate act of hatred against Jewish families, children, and clergy who had gathered peacefully to practice their faith in public. I grieve the innocent lives stolen, including Alex Kleytman, a Holocaust survivor whose murder on this holy night is almost beyond comprehension. That someone who endured the darkest evil of the 20th century was taken by the hatred of the 21st is a searing reminder of the cost of antisemitism and the urgency of saying “Never Again” — and meaning it.
We must meet this evil with unity and resolve. The safety of Jewish communities in Australia, in New Hampshire, and around the world is inseparable, and I remain unwavering in my commitment to confronting antisemitism wherever it appears and to ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable. Tonight, as families light the first candle of the menorah, they do so in defiance of fear and in faith that light will prevail over darkness. No act of terror can extinguish the resilience of the Jewish people. My prayers are with the victims, the wounded, the grieving families, and the entire Jewish community. We stand with you — today and always.
