The Friday before the event, I was honored to host @genesimmons and his family (and my friend Elliot Berke) for lunch at White House. He is (obviously) a legendary rock star and also a good man.
At lunch, Gene talked about his love of America and the American Dream, his gratitude to be a citizen of this great country (born in Israel in poverty and coming to America at age 8).
He also spoke most beautifully of his mom, who was a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp in Austria and raised young Gene as a single mom in Queens, New York, believed in him, and was fiercely protective of him.
