I watched intently as the parishioner went to exchange the candle for a new one. I must have had a sense of wonder on my face, because they walked right up to me and asked me if I wanted to take home the old candle which they said still had about 10 hours left of burn time.
I was deeply moved by this. You mean to say, that the candle that stood watch over Our Lord with fidelity, from its first burn to now, gets to go home and burn its last 10 hours with me?
I looked at Jesus in that moment and tears started to fill my eyes.
I didn’t ask for this, nor could I have ever planned it.
Somehow it felt like a quiet reminder from Jesus Himself that whispered to me: “I’m still here.”
