I was annoyed. I pounded on the wall. It stopped. The next night, same thing. I marched over there, ready to give her a piece of my mind. She opened the door. She looked terrified. ‘I’m so sorry,’ she said, trembling. ‘I’ll turn it down.’ I looked past her. The apartment was dead silent. No family. No pets. Just a silent room. ‘Why is it so loud, Mrs. Gable?’ I asked, my anger fading. She looked down. ‘The silence,’ she whispered. ‘It gets so heavy at night. Since my husband passed… the silence feels like it’s crushing me. The TV makes it feel like people are here.’ My heart broke. I didn’t yell. ‘Turn it down a little,’ I said. ‘And leave your door unlocked.’ I went home, grabbed my pillow and a blanket. I went back to Mrs. Gable’s. ‘I can’t sleep either,’ I lied. ‘Mind if we watch a movie?’ We watched Casablanca. She fell asleep on the armchair halfway through. Now, we have movie nights every Tuesday and Thursday. The silence is heavy. Help someone carry it.

A baby is screaming uncontrollably inside a small clinic in Buchanan, Liberia, when an American doctor calmly demonstrates a technique he says works anywhere in the world. With one arm positioned above and the other below, he applies a specific hold - no medication, no gadgets, no soothing talk - and within seconds the crying completely stops as the baby visibly relaxes in his arms.
The clip has parents amazed, critics uncomfortable, and the internet arguing over whether this is a brilliant universal calming technique or something that shouldn’t be demonstrated so casually on camera.
Is this a genius parenting trick… or something doctors shouldn’t be doing on camera?
