>>173882US Oil & Gas Association @US_OGA - At 500,000 barrels/day -- California is the disappointing Son-in-law at this family dinner.
The one that eventually gets cropped out of the family portrait.
So much promise. Smart. But rather than going to work producing, CA still thinks someone's going to buy their screenplay about renewables.
The historical onshore fields (e.g., San Joaquin Valley, Los Angeles Basin) and offshore could support significantly higher output—potentially 1–2 million b/d or more which would put them new to New Mexico, Brazil and others.
Instead CA policies and politicians have deliberately throttled production despite abundant resources.
They have turned the state into an "energy island" reliant on foreign/in-state-limited oil while sitting on massive untapped potential.
So much potential. So much disappointment.

Texas alone at roughly 5.5–6 million b/d sits between. Saudi and Canada at the dinner table.
New Mexico at 2 million b/d is sitting with the teenagers Brazil, UAE and Iran.
Venezuela sitting at the kids table, got the wooden spoon for mouthing off.
