These are business decisions made by business owners over how best to expand their audience when audience size is the path to increased monetization and more money.
The most prominent members of this "club" have embarked on business ventures that are "organizational" -- they have hired people and incurred fixed overhead costs that must be paid every month.
The "business plan" is to get bigger, i.e., to steadily and predictably increase revenue.
The fact that a well-covered few have gone down the path of pursuing the largely male, under-35 groyper class is proof that they've been told that's where they can find a larger audience.
