This review paper summarizes recent research (mostly from 2010–2025) on Coriolus versicolor (also called Trametes versicolor or Turkey Tail mushroom), a colorful, shelf-like fungus commonly found on dead trees.
Why Turkey Tail is promising:
The mushroom contains powerful bioactive compounds, especially protein-bound polysaccharides like PSK (Krestin, from Japan) and PSP (from China), which have been used as supportive cancer therapy in Asia for decades
Other helpful parts include enzymes (like laccase)
Actions against Breast Cancer:
1. Directly kills or stops growth of cancer cells (cytotoxicity and anti-proliferation), especially in hormone-sensitive types.
2. Triggers cell death — through apoptosis (programmed suicide), necroptosis (another form of controlled death), and by messing with estrogen signaling (Turkey Tail Laccase breaks down estrogen that fuels some cancers).
