It was filmed in the Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica.

More than 18,000 people were killed or went missing, most in coastal communities in northeastern Japan. Entire towns were overwhelmed within minutes as waves surged inland, in some cases travelling several kilometres from the shore.
The tsunami also triggered the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, after flooding disabled cooling systems at the plant. This led to evacuations affecting over 100,000 people and long-term exclusion zones.
In many of the hardest-hit areas, the first waves arrived within 30 to 40 minutes, limiting evacuation time even with warnings in place.
The vast majority of deaths were caused by the tsunami, with around 90% of victims dying by drowning. The scale of destruction was concentrated in a relatively small stretch of coastline, but the human impact was immense.

That rupture displaced a huge section of the seafloor, pushing water upward and sending wave energy outward across the Pacific. The largest coastal impacts were near Japan, but the tsunami itself crossed the entire ocean, reaching Hawaii in around 7–8 hours and the U.S. West Coast in about 10–12 hours.
