My Air Force crew and I once flew all over the Middle East with Bob Hope and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders on a USO tour. Brooke Shields was along for a portion of the trip but jumped off at one point to fly back to the States.
We laid over in Lajes Air Base Portugal on the way back to the States after a pretty grueling tour. Everybody was whipped. It had been a fantastic trip but a grueling one.
After we checked into the BOQ we all headed over to the Officer’s Club for a beer. Bob went to bed. Most of the cheerleaders tagged along with the crew. We didn’t object.
We drank some Sagres beers played some shuffleboard and kept the jukebox pumping. Very cool ladies and they were ready to get home too.
I walked back to my room which was right across the street. They’d given me a corner sweet. It was a gorgeous night. The moon was full. I opened my windows and fell asleep to the breezes of the island. I remember clearly the drapes waving in the breeze.
The next day we were on our way back to the east coast to deliver our VIPs. One of my favorite memories. Bob Hope was an absolute gentleman BTW. We took care of him and even had a nice DV suite (RV) set up in the back.

Buzz Patterson @BuzzPatterson - Based on my experience with the White House and Secret Service this is highly unusual. They used to block off whole floors of a hotel. They also used to seal all possible entrances/exits.
They’re either extremely undermanned or they’ve changed philosophies.
In any event there is absolutely no reason not to fully fund DHS! Congress needs to get off their collective asses!
