When he first started speaking he was startled by a flurry of birds when he was talking about Lee Greenwoods “Proud to be an American.” “What a great song. I won a lot of races with that song.” The birds interrupted him. “Oh, oh. Thought that was a drone. They make them in all different sizes nowadays. They can be very destructive as you probably know.”
He said he was honored to speak to the law enforcement community. Twice, he cited their past support of him in campaigns. “These are my friends. These people voted for me 98% and we’re looking for the other two.”
He praised Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and jabbed FBI director for all the publicity he gets. He called Miller “fantastic” and “an MVP candidate.” Of Patel, he said he “doesn't get enough publicity. If you could get a little more publicity.”
Other tidbits, he praised the Secret Service’s work at the WHCA dinner. “I thought you did a great job two weeks ago. You know why? Because I'm here, okay? We consider being here a success.” He said of the military, “Our military is great. We are kicking ass.”
Before the event, the pool could hear a mix of show tunes, Paul McCartney, Celine Dion and Ray Charles songs. There looked to be 32 tables of four each with a menu of salad, prime beef filet and a chocolate dessert.
