>>186627Jill Filipovic @JillFilipovic - How did the DSA win so big in New York?
-A charismatic and popular mayor - everyone wants to play for Mamdani's team.
-An organization that has spent years creating spaces for ideological exchange and power-building among young people. If you're young, lefty, and idealistic, the DSA offers a space to cultivate friendships, debate ideas, and deepen ideological commitments. It then has a whole team of engaged young people who feel politically marginalized, who socialize via activism, and who can be mobilized to pound the pavement for DSA candidates.
-A widespread frustration at the Democratic Party for not taking down Trump, for not doing much of anything at all, and for being ideologically hollowed-out and unwilling to stand for much beyond moderate-left sloganeering.
