Select quotes from this afternoon's event in the Oval Office. The full Otter file is here .
IRAN: "The talks are going on. We were going to hit them very hard yesterday…harder than any attack…since World War II….We are talking right now…This is a last chance for them to sign a good document.
"We will find out today or tomorrow. I mean, they're going to go quickly, one way or the other. It's not very complex. We're talking about the strait, the opening of the strait, having it open literally by tomorrow, completely open."
Trump repeated his insistence that the US has "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz. "You know, we have a thing called a blockade with his navy," Trump said, nodding at General Caine.
"I want to give them every last chance before decapitation. Very tough to do what we have planned, still planned, we'll see what happens…to do an attack that big on a country, I'd rather not do it."
ON MAX MILLER: "It's a very sad thing…he is a good person. I mean, I always thought he was a very good person, and I am going to let the families figure that out…it's accusations, and I'm going to let them figure that out."
ON TODD BLANCHE: Trump said he "didn't look at" Blanche's agreement with Senators Cornyn and Tillis. "I understand there has been a sign off, but I don't know what they agreed. I think Todd Blanche agreed to reconfirm things that he has already said."
ON OIL COMPANIES' PROFITS: "I don't like it…they are making too much money…based on a shortage, they are making too much money. I don't like it, and I should be the last one to say it because I am a big free enterprise guy. Nobody bigger…Chevron, too much money, Exxon Mobil, too much, too much money…they ought to give some of that back to the public, and they better cut the retail price, the consumer price."
ON PIRRO: "Jeanine Pirro made a mistake…the judge was extremely unfriendly to Janine, and frankly, I think she choked, because the judge was really vicious…I guess she choked. I don't know what the hell happened."
Additional color:
A White House official shared that the executive director of the new commission who spoke after General Caine was Desiree Sayle.
In addition to the Hegseths and General Caine, your pooler also saw Stephen Miller, Natalie Harp, Dan Scavino and Will Scharf standing in the back of the Oval Office during the event.
