5. Fusion Energy Position While advanced fission (like SMRs and microreactors) has received rapid regulatory pathways, the administration has taken a more cautious approach to fusion energy. Recent White House and DOE discussions have clarified that while massive commercial fusion initiatives like Commonwealth Fusion Systems (aiming for net energy gain at their SPARC facility by 2027) are moving quickly via private backing, the administration considers the fusion field to be in an earlier phase.
