After being tortured and imprisoned by the Communist regime, he was freed during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. When the Soviet Union crushed the uprising, he sought refuge in the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, where he remained in political asylum for 15 years.
He is not only a national hero of Hungary but also an enduring inspiration to all who continue to resist Communism today.
