OSINTdefender @sentdefender - The U.S. Army is preparing to stand up a new Patriot air-defense battalion on Guam in October, adding another layer to the island’s growing integrated air and missile defense network, according to reporting from TWZ.
The new 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment (3-43 ADA) will combine Patriot with Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC)/Enduring Shield, giving Guam layered protection against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. About 120 soldiers are already on the island, with the weapon systems expected to arrive over the following months.
The move is significant given Guam’s role as a major U.S. air and naval hub in the Western Pacific and its vulnerability to Chinese ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missile threats. The broader Guam Defense System is also incorporating new sensors, including the LTAMDS and AN/TPY-6, and ground-based launchers capable of supporting SM-3/SM-6 interceptors.
