Nick shirley @nickshirleyy - The bill is completely unnecessary
Parent Post:
Pirate Wires @PirateWires - Gavin Newsom just signed Assembly Bill 2624, aka the “Stop Nick Shirley Act,” which makes it illegal to post an immigration support worker’s personal or employment info online with specific intent to threaten or incite violence against them.
Pirate Wires covered the bill in June. Free-speech concerns aside, it seems unnecessary. Inciting violence was already illegal. Doxxing is already prohibited by most social platforms.
More importantly, the bill was introduced one month after @nickshirleyy announced he’d be investigating fraud in CA. It was written by Mia Bonta, wife of California’s Attorney General (aka, the guy who should be prosecuting fraud in the state…)
So is this bill really a necessary protection? Or an obvious attempt at discouraging Shirley and others from exposing immigration fraud? @rylzdigital reports

Nick shirley @nickshirleyy - @TheJusticeDept, there is absolutely no need for the bill and it’s obvious why the corrupt politicians created it. They need the fraud.
See you all in Sacramento tomorrow at 11am.

Carl DeMaio @carldemaio - REQUEST FOR DOJ ACTION:
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law that punishes the people EXPOSING fraud instead of the people committing it!
I’m asking the U.S. DOJ to intervene against AB 2624 — the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” — and stop this attack on citizen journalists and the First Amendment.
