U.S. Marines @USMC - Battle of Inchon
#OTD in 1950, U.S. #Marines made history at the Battle of Inchon, a pivotal moment in the #KoreanWar.
Following weeks of fighting to hold the Pusan Perimeter, United Nations forces launched Operation Chromite, a daring amphibious assault designed to strike deep behind enemy lines. On September 15, Marines of the 1st Marine Division landed at Inchon, overcoming extreme tides, fortified positions, and enemy resistance.
After a heavy naval and air bombardment, Marines stormed the beaches of Inchon, securing Wolmi-do before advancing across Red, Blue, and Green beaches. Their determined assault quickly established a foothold, allowing UN forces to push inland toward Kimpo and Seoul.
The Inchon landing was a decisive victory and strategic turning point in the Korean War, transforming the momentum of the conflict and demonstrating the effectiveness of amphibious operations. The battle remains a testament to the Marines’ courage, determination, and battlefield prowess, while cementing Inchon as one of the defining moments in #MarineCorps history.
