Good Morning,
Please join me for a daily scripture break.
I John 1:9:
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Last week, we explored the immutability of God. Based on our study we can be assured, God doesn’t change His mind on anything He said in the past. Lets’s consider today’s scripture break. "IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS” which is the prerequisite for God to perform what He promised in this verse then God acts. There is no ambiguity; we must confess our sins first THEN He declares what He will do. I find it interesting that God knows us so well the first thing He does is remind us we can trust Him because He is faithful. Let’s examine exactly what He promised.
1. In this verse God promised He is faithful to His Word and Promises. He knows we are still unsure if He will change His mind even though we have confessed our sins. So, He emphasizes “I am faithful."
2. In this verse God promised He is just to forgive us our sins. His just nature is the basis by which forgiveness can occur. He forgives us (because we have confessed our sin) and then requires us to forgive others also. (Matthew 6:14-15)
3. In this verse God promised He is able to cleanse us. Our cleansing can occur because of Jesus (I John 1:7 which says, “…the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.“)
By believing God is immutable, just, and faithful to do what He says in His Word; our sins are forgiven through the blood of Jesus. As you study the Word of God, remember it is because God is Who He says He is that we can take the bold step in believing the Word of God without reservation. He instructs us, warns us, loves us, comforts us, disciplines us, and restores us all because we are His children. (I Corinthians 6:20)
