Video: The Pentagon confirms all U.S. bombers deployed to RAF Fairford are back on American soil, days after British authorities launched a terrorism investigation into suspicious activity near the military base.
The Pentagon is not saying why the aircraft left, only confirming that the bombers "have redeployed to their home stations in the United States."
The timing comes as British counterterrorism police continue investigating the Sept. 27 incident near RAF Fairford. Five men were initially arrested after three suspicious vehicles were reported traveling toward the base. Police say no improvised explosive devices were found, but petrol was recovered from the vehicles.
A sixth man, a 25-year-old dual UK/Iranian national, was later arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
