>>195856DataRepublican (small r) @DataRepublican - On the run, but here’s what my AI/SI turned up:
Across all three reports, I found no outside funder, fiscal sponsor, grant, government contract or campaign payment to GAIA. That doesn't prove the "small donations" claim is true. Nothing can be checked at all: GAIA has never filed any financial disclosure anywhere. The story is the secrecy, not a hidden backer.
What the records show
• No fiscal sponsor and no tax-exempt status. Online donations go into a payment account GAIA controls, not through a sponsor. No version of the site has shown a tax ID number or said donations are tax-deductible. It has never filed a 990, so gifts to it aren't deductible.
• The "since 2018" story falls apart. Its legal history:
• Oct 2019: a for-profit Oregon LLC is formed. Oregon dissolved it in Dec 2020. In 2020 it asked for money through Cash App and a Venmo account that looks personal.
• 2021 to mid-2025: there's no GAIA entity anywhere.
• 2025: it becomes a California nonprofit corporation. Abrahamsen is its legal contact, CEO and CFO.
• Its headquarters is his apartment. 346 N Vermont is unit 604 in an 80-unit rental building. 606 Venice is a mail drop. It doesn't share space with any funded group.
• Campaigns paid him, never GAIA. I checked every campaign-finance system covering where he has worked: federal (FEC), Oregon, California, LA City, 731 other California local agencies including LA County, and Washington. None shows a payment to GAIA. The only campaign money went to Abrahamsen personally as wages:
• $4,512 from the Eckerts' psilocybin campaign in 2018
• about $2,700 from Stanford's hemp campaign and Green Party canvasses in 2013
• It doesn't canvass for other groups. Its job ad describes only its own campaigns. It isn't registered with the California Attorney General as a paid fundraiser, and no other nonprofit's tax filings show payments to it. That closes off the idea that it's a paid canvassing vendor.
• No government money turned up in LA City, California, Oregon or federal records. None of the groups it calls partners passes money to it.
Where the story is: compliance
• No LA solicitation permit. LA requires a city permit for anyone asking for charitable donations, and permit holders have to publicly report how much they raised. GAIA isn't on LAPD's full list of 2025 permit holders, so no revenue figure exists anywhere.
