Seems like a long-time balancing act. Brainwashed people who are lead by a single leader are a powerful force, but also vulnerable to a "virus" that can take advantage of their hivemind like nature through their language. Enlightened people are not vulnerable in that way, but at the same time they are atomized, they can no longer move powerfully as one and build that big tower.
Not to jerk myself off, but I did think of the idea that one language = one big vulnerability before the book stated it outright. I am so SMRT
