If the material world were all that exists, it would be just a meaningless torture dungeon you live a brief life in constant fear. That is the life of most animals and so on.
We built some form of paradise in it, and it only serves to torture is further. And this will be so no matter what perfect paradise we make.
The true understanding this is not all that exists makes it just into a sort of game, being in it or not doesn't matter, the suffering doesn't matter.
The ascension is at least in mind being able to enjoy whatever hell or heaven you are in. Not being taken to a place in which there is none of that.
