Google latest GPT nearly doubled its advantage on the previous best AI, but that is not really the reason, the reason is that they did it without NVIDIA hardware, they did on their own TPUs fabricated directly by TSMC.
This means the Nvidia monopoly is no more, and shifts all sorts of balances. Begins the specialized tensor core race.
