I don't doubt that.
Communism had practical side, impact on daily lives. Making like a good third of the population a snitch, turning family members against each other, promoting laziness (people don't work that well if their workplace is state owned and their products is state owned), promoting theft (people had to steal shit from their workplace to make their private lives more livable), promoting corruption (one could take care of things only by greasing the wheels), promoting servility towards the power, constant fear of repercussions made them more compromising in their beliefs, etc.
