I think a big reason Americans are so fat is because in the US going somewhere to eat or drink is often the only recreational activity available to people. In squatamalan antfarm areas like where I live there is almost nothing to do. Forget not being a "walkable" city, many places aren't even livable cities, just open air labor camps.
