Interesting. I saw an old advert from the 30s about some big metal bulbous thing. Heat the bulb on one end with a campfire and the bulb on the other end cools below ambient temperature. It was made for pioneers who didn't have power, to allow them to keep food longer. Maybe the trunk A/C works something like that.
