I personally solved this when I realized the astral and the physical hold a particular semiotic relationship:
>the astral looks symbolic when seen from the physical
>the physical looks symbolic when seen from the astral
Taking this into account, you interact with both planes in a literal sense when you're in them, but the consequences of such actions reflect symbolically on the other plane.
With this in mind and by paying attention you will see there is no limitation.
Of course personal mental blocks and the attenuation caused by collective pressure are also things.
