I've seen the footage of how European rivers look at the places they gather the trash, it's dominated by plastic bottle lids. Locally the sewage purification facilities are complaining about the amount of fibre cloth towels clogging up the system. They now have to clean it by hand 3 times daily compared to once weekly before.

There isn't much trash out where I live because it's a very rural area, but if there is trash it feels like a desecration, so I'm forced to pick it up. That's how I know there's been a change. Plastic wrappers from chocolate bars thrown from car windows, bag in box wine containers, tin cans, plastic bottles. This shit is thrown by city people travelling by here now.

Normally there is nothing at all along the roads here aside from the plastic wrappers for hay which get torn off by the wind now and then, so anything else stands out.

The cities were trash piles already 20 years ago, people would throw household trash in the space directly outside the pavement, by the side of the car lanes, creating a long line of trash along the streets. I haven't been to Stockholm lately, but I've heard it's gotten significantly worse.
