The point is being missed. Any time spent on this stuff is time not spent writing code. CVS worked fine 20 years ago for any software worth developing and it works fine now.

Anyone that thinks "but what about if you want to have 500 programmers working on one project?" has already accepted bloated and unmaintainable software as a given. Same applies to software development "methodologies" and their inevitable project team bloat. Thanks to agile/scrum, we now have companies with employees whose jobs it is to manage people whose jobs it is to plan meetings.

One coder wrote Linux. One coder wrote NT kernel. One coder wrote Sendmail. One coder wrote the Apache web server. Spend your time writing software, not screwing around with tools.
