For me it's not. I would only resort to these special routing softwares if there was some censorship or blocks in place. I used the ZeroNet stuff to get on 08chan when 8ch got cucked by cuckflare, but got fed up with its javascript interface after a couple weeks. I also used Tor to access nanochan, but haven't bothered with it in a long time. Overall I tend to favor using simple text-oriented protocols that have multiple implementations, such as gopher, ftp, smtp, telnet/ssh, and nntp. Basically if it can run fine on an 8-bit computer, I'm interested, otherwise not so much. The big exception here is ssh because the crypto requires tons of cpu cycles.

if you want to help test lokinet: absolutely

if you are concerned about privacy: should probably stay with tor, as it is more mature/tested
