a simple explanation is he didn't like being admin.
when you're solo admin of an imageboard it's a chore, not a funny chatroom you can close when the bad posters are active. when the bad posters start using your website you either suffer, fight or quit, and its not fun to fight vpns.
if it was easychan they wouldn't listen to critics. fees were already paid so it's a waste of money to immediately close up.
