Birdwatching Trip Report #1:

Went out yesterday, a little later than would be recommended to catch the migrating birds. As a result I didn't get good pics of any warblers or the like. I ended up focusing in on one of my favorite local bird species, the brown thrasher. Related to mockingbirds, they also have the ability to mimic other songbirds. This one wasn't singing since it's not their breeding season, but he was calling, and to me their call sounds like a big ol' smooching sound. Really fun birds to watch as they're large and quite active.

In my opinion, their songs are much more clear and distinct than the mockingbird's. They also almost always sing in couplets, whereas the mockingbird will repeat phrases 5-7 times, so you can actually tell them apart audibly that way.

Also bonus strangler fig picture for tree anon (if he's still around, which I hope he is).
