I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing it's just that the BO's and old-fags didn't take the time to break them of their ritually inscribed faggot behaviors and expectations. The new users moved in and out of habit tried to make 8chan "more like home" which result in perverting the very thing that had attracted them to image boards in the first place.
