Controlling multiple characters. Anonymous 09/21/2017 (Thu) 08:59:26 [Preview] No. 11223
Remind me again, what are some games with an essential mechanic of an independently controllable 『o p t i o n 』 that hovers around your character? I like the multilateral thinking of moving in a traditional way but at the same time giving commands in a strategic way.

I seem to remember some game had a near field clone like Ninja Gaiden, but you would project it to your wanted direction instead of automatically three feet above you. Though that's not really on topic because it moves in exact synch. Speaking of Ninja Gaiden, throwing a returning ninja star to keep dodging it is fun.

Like Tales of games? Not sure specifically what you mean.

Mario&Luigi is actually a great suggestion, I'm mostly looking for what's escaping me because I'm not entirely sure myself. Specifically right now I'm thinking about de-syncing Ice Climbers, as well as select characters in Soul Calibur V that were inspired by Jojo's Adventure for Dreamcast. The key element is

in any context. Because it's fun in any context.

Tales of Symphonia would also count if you talk about quickly micromanaging your mages while your attack animation finishes, it's indeed another good example.

The Lost Vikings maybe?

You control 3 characters individually that have different abilities to solve platformer puzzles. I used to play it quite a bit in the old days.

In NBA Jam (the SNES and Genesis/Megadrive ones) you could switch between the two players on your team (one you werent controlling at the time was CPU controlled). Good players were really good at switching at just the right time on defense.

Otherwise I have no idea what OP is talking about.

Lemmings, Land without Night, Alisia Dragoon, Fire Emblem?

also this stupid browser only allows 1 attachment at a time, so enjoy 1 cover.

Than Kirby Super Star and Guardian Heroes, I wouldn't know since I never owned a Dreamcast.

The Kirby Superstar companion was computer controlled. He basically just got his ass kicked and exploded all over the place.

it was easier to win without him. Sadly every time you changed powers you made him.

Still ove of my favorite games, I wish to it was more difficult and the blocking wasn't so effective. Wish more games had that gameplay too since it got so many elements right and the variety of powerups kept it fresh to replay.

You can play 2nd char on second controller. And Sonic 2+ has had 2 characters for play, but not a requirement. I used to play coop games like what you mean on flash, something about fire and ice.
Maybe if you recall how the characters looked like, some of the scenes, etc..

Would love to play a game like that, or develop one later on. Right now my focus is a true F.L.O.S.S. mugen like engine using either Godot or some other saner code base. Then from there make my dream "clone" of my fav. game of all time. Oh, and I owe GamerFruit@diceeurope first his game, so yours even more in the back burner. And I owe with that engine a specific game the gods told me to make, even if it's not my genre at all.

Maybe they should remake Knuckles' Chaotix. Physics platformers have come a long way.

I'm surprised nobody's brought up The World Ends with You/Subarashiki since its core mechanic was controlling two characters on two screens with two control schemes.
