You're comparing peaches to lemons here.
Houston is a unique place as it's a major hub for agriculture transport, oil and gas transport, one of the largest ports in the US, the 3rd largest city in the US and, there's lots of flat land
that causes sinkholes and floods often
and developers hopped on that pretty hard.
Plus, Texas has a buffer against most economic downturns in the US leaving largely unaffected. However, there's a lot wrong with it too. There's a lot of shit flinging with the local governments, highways have been two lane since the 1950's and barely been updated, property taxes are through the roof (my parents were paying about $1600/month to live where they were at), infrastructure is in complete tatters because the lack of oversight of where they build subdivisions or distribution centers, there are niggers everywhere, and the Latin American population is set to overtake whites in a few years.
so on and so forth.
Oh, and vehicular fatalities are higher in Texas than Australia.
You're paying in one way or another. But at least in Australia you won't die a horrible death from flooding, fatal car crashes, flesh eating bacteria, the horrendous meth problem, niggers, freezing to death, so on and so forth.
