Grim Dawn is a well done Diablo clone built by a sizable team. What it lacks in uniqueness of concept it more than makes up for in its recreation of the most enjoyable aspects of playing Diablo. Grim Dawn has the upgradable leveled loot, a large palette of effects, skills, character builds, and a perceptable change in the strength of your character as you tweak your gear and skills. If you spent hours in Diablo, you'll probably like Grim Dawn. Unfortunately, it is buggy, locking up every couple hours for no apparent reason. Interestingly, the game seems to update the character save file in real time, so after a freeze you can kill the process, restart, and you come up in town with XP, inventory, and quest states as they were at the moment the game hung.

I played through to about level 12 before I found the skill tree where I could add some AoE stuns and damages, at which point I started chewing through monsters like macaroni and cheese. The game kept hanging though, and after the second time while trying to decide which new epic piece of loot to pick up after killing an enemy hero, I'd had enough and bailed. It hung 6 times in 8 hours.

Grim Dawn is beautiful and faithfully recaptures the best feels of Diablo in a post-apocalyptic magical zombie setting. It does what it clearly set out to do very well, but they really need to get an old school reentrancy hacker on their team and get rid of those lockups.
