The world seems a lot more soul-grindy now than it used to be.

Have some dungeon-grindy to take the edge off. I liked what I saw of this so here are some words about it tucked away on an onion chan in the far reaches of the Unterblabs.

Legends of Ellaria's thing is that it starts out looking like a basic sword / health pots 3D RPG with vaguely Skyrim-ish controls and then a few minutes into it you find that it is also an RTS where you construct buildings and gather resources and command soldiers. It's still in development (first-person view isn't implemented yet, you may not be able to scroll down to the video resolution option you want, enemy AI isn't there, repetitive dungeons, the controls feel sluggish with delays and inability to align with containers because your character has to walk in a circle to turn around, the lighting and shaders need.. something.., etc) but the RPG+RTS combination is the thing and that concept feels like it has potential. I played it for 6 hours straight one day and another 6 the next and it never crashed.

Grim Dawn is a well done Diablo clone built by a sizable team. What it lacks in uniqueness of concept it more than makes up for in its recreation of the most enjoyable aspects of playing Diablo. Grim Dawn has the upgradable leveled loot, a large palette of effects, skills, character builds, and a perceptable change in the strength of your character as you tweak your gear and skills. If you spent hours in Diablo, you'll probably like Grim Dawn. Unfortunately, it is buggy, locking up every couple hours for no apparent reason. Interestingly, the game seems to update the character save file in real time, so after a freeze you can kill the process, restart, and you come up in town with XP, inventory, and quest states as they were at the moment the game hung.

I played through to about level 12 before I found the skill tree where I could add some AoE stuns and damages, at which point I started chewing through monsters like macaroni and cheese. The game kept hanging though, and after the second time while trying to decide which new epic piece of loot to pick up after killing an enemy hero, I'd had enough and bailed. It hung 6 times in 8 hours.

Grim Dawn is beautiful and faithfully recaptures the best feels of Diablo in a post-apocalyptic magical zombie setting. It does what it clearly set out to do very well, but they really need to get an old school reentrancy hacker on their team and get rid of those lockups.

Kingdoms and Castles is an addictive little city-building game that is very nicely done. In the opening screen, the clouds let you know that the programmers enjoyed writing this. The basic idea is simple enough: Build a city hall, start chopping wood, add a hovel, build a farm, and so on. However, almost everything that you build creates ongoing employment that is equal in priority to new construction jobs. In other words, if your town has more job openings than people (which seems to almost always be the case) and you start building an archery tower because a dragon is coming, you'll need to temporarily shut down something to get citizens to come build the new thing that you want. They won't do it automatically. Overbuild and lose your balance and the hysteresis effect can oscillate out of control, leaving you with a starving population, empty stores, and no defenses while Viking ships approach to burn your stuff down. I liked it, though I did want to punch the advisers after awhile because they wouldn't shut up about nobody being available to build stuff. Not one crash in 6 hours.

Great article, would you like to check my suggestion? Josephgam 06/29/2018 (Fri) 12:58:49 [Preview] No.18 del
