>well digital fingerprint refers to your computer being recognized across the web
I guess. That’s only part of it. They can track and correlate all of your devices. Say you do something on your phone, and then do something on your computer, they can know that was also you, even if you weren’t logged into any accounts. This is a very basic example and it goes much deeper than this. Even if you’ve never had a Facebook account, but you’re at a friend's birthday party and someone takes a picture of you there and uploads it to Facebook. Facebook can now cross reference your image with the bio-metric datasets they already have. Even better, if someone “helpfully” tags you in the picture with your name, you now have a digital footprint, and never touched your computer. I could go on about this, but the point is, a digital fingerprint is much, much more than “your computer being recognized across the web”.

>they track you through widgets or google's ad service to see your internet activity. I'm not aware of them being able to tell information about your computer other than what the browser communicates to them.
That is the tip of the iceberg. Are you aware of what modern browsers communicate? Chrome especially?

>"just don't give them any information" is a pretty optimistic take on it
That’s how it works, though. If nobody feeds into the system, the system ceases to function. We functioned perfectly fine 20 years ago, but now to your average person it seems insane to not participate in the 1984 control grid. It really isn’t that hard to disconnect yourself from it. How interesting is it REALLY be scrolling on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube? It’s mind numbing and puts you in a state of hypnotic consumption.

>I'll be amazed if you really don't have a google, microsoft, or amazon account
I don’t.

>only use linux
Correct, that’s all I use.

>and don't have a smartphone. post your flip phone or your alternative phone OS or I call bullshit.
