Yes. I think the psychiatric definition of schizophrenic means one is consumed by it and becomes it and has no grip over the experience that is happening.
It doesn't necessarily explain why or how, just that the diagnosis means they haven't got control or a grip or a handle over that experience they labelled not-normal.

I've done research about the theories and found that mainstream science and medicine is severely limited basically across all sectors.
If it was to be a realistic theoretical model it is most likely that the two hemispheres of the brain (not literally) have cross chatter and a voice arises from the subconscious and into the awareness of the mind.
Some people, smart people even, have made them selves psychotic by delving too deep into their own mind or difficult concepts. Carl Jung and Nieztche both did that I believe.
