Gran Turismo 2 was the apex of racing games
the graphics were just shit enough not to be too connected or disconnected from the driving experience, the soundtrack was easy and the car noises were appreciable
and especially cool was the tuning because one could do some wildy unrealistic stuff with suspension
I once pulled off a perfect drift in a skyline in gt2
probably my favourite game closely followed by counter strike source
