I prefer Cutty Sark or Dewars blended scotch, it's not the dirt cheap crap but it's not too fancy or expensive either. Average price range today for both brands is around $30 for an average 750ml bottle. When I go to re-stock almost every other month I buy a dozen bottles of either one or sometimes both brands. Then I go to a local liquor store and buy a couple liqueurs that would go good for making some more mix drinks. Keep in mind I'm an admitted alcoholic so this much drinking may seem a bit unusual to most folks ;)

As a tip: if you think it's too much money being spent on the whiskey brands I mentioned above you could always buy a big 1.8 Liter bottle of blended 12YO Kirkland scotch from Costco for $30, more than double the amount of those other two brands.
