So they claim, from what I recall the allegation first made was from Clinton Smith (no relation to Jeff) who once worked in Jeff's restaurant, Chaplain's Pantry in Tacoma, (this was before Jeff Smith was popular or had his own TV show btw) who ended up getting caught stealing thousands of dollars from Jeff's restaurant and was later arrested and convicted for robbery, and sentenced four years in prison. Clinton Smith, the man who stole money from his boss was the one starting the claims against him, so I take that with a huge grain of salt, mostly because there was no evidence to back this rape claim. Jeff was also known (behind the scenes) for pissing some people off in his past, he was a wino with a tendency to drink even in public. Even before his book signings he would be drinking wine in the back of his limo. I'm sure there was plenty of lucrative opportunity for those who had reasons not to like him to make accusations. Then again, I can't really prove they were lying either, nor has anyone else proved Jeff was lying trying to defend himself. It did however destroy his career. I still say he was one of my favorite celeb chefs giving him benefit of the doubt.
