I observe both closely for many years now. The only common thing is alcoholism.
Australians are easygoing and cheerful, their banter is frequent, their quips are friendly and rarely malignant. They are usually superficial and generally useless.
Russians are depressive, pessimist and self-loathing. While they have excellent humour they are sensitive to banter often misunderstanding intentions. Many Russians have deep knowledge about practical things (and less practical) and can be great assets when things needs to be done.
